Which restaurants in Karachi are operating in unhygienic conditions?

The Sindh Food Authority carried out raids on Thursday at various food outlets in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony, Patel Para and Garden East.

The food outlets challaned during inspections in Patel Para and Garden East include Al Naaz Biryani and Pakwan Centre, Al Madina Pakwan Centre, Cafe Jadoon, Hamza Pakwan Centre, Purana Hasan Zai and Jama Restaurant.

Restaurants raided and penalised in Shah Faisal include Aminia Bakers and its manufacturing unit, Shah Faisal Sweets, A-1 Peshawari Chapli Kabab Restaurant and its catering service unit, Bombay Nimco Sweets & Bakery, Bismillah Pakwan Center and catering services and Pizza 363.

During the raid in A-1 Peshawari Chapli Kabab, the SFA team found that the eatery was operating in unhygienic conditions and food items were stored in a chemical drum. The condition of the kitchen was also marked unsatisfactory.

The eateries of Shah Faisal Colony were fined a total of Rs95,000.

The authority also raided Al Madina Pakwan Centre and found unhygienic food and pesticide on the food. A fine of Rs5,000 was imposed on the eatery.

Similarly, cockroaches, spiders and a cat were found in the kitchen of Cafe Jadoon. The restaurant has been sealed. Purana Hasan Zai restaurant was also raided and fined of Rs15,000.

Expired and banned products (including MSG) along with food samples were collected during the raids. The samples will be sent for laboratory testing.

The SFA has directed all the eateries to improve their hygiene and cleanliness standards within seven days.
